FAQs: Sauna

Q: So what is infrared light, exactly?

A: Infrared light rays are invisible. They penetrate deep into the skin as they dissolve harmful substances accumulated in your body. It's the healthiest light on the sun's spectrum.

Q; What are the benefits?

A: Time spent in an infrared sauna offers a ton of benefits, including, pain relief, quicker recovery time from injury, detoxification and even weight loss. Other benefits include lowered blood pressure, better sleep and stress relief. Finally, infrared saunas also help increase circulation, clearing up acne and improving your skin's appearance. Think of your time in an infrared sauna as spending your "you" time efficiently!

Q: How is an infrared sauna different from a traditional, old-fashioned sauna?

A: Infrared light penetrates deeper into the skin (1.5 inches or more), raising the body's core temperature and inducing detoxifying sweat. Sweat is how the body eliminates toxins. Infrared saunas cause the water molecules in the body to vibrate, which releases the gases and other toxic materials held within. In fact, an infrared sauna is almost 7x more efficient at releasing toxins held within the body than a traditional sauna. While in the sauna, you'll feel a warm, gentle heat that's much lower than traditional saunas. Instead of heating your body directly, the infrared sauna penetrates the skin. Infrared saunas offer better benefits than traditional saunas without the heavy, overbearing heat.

Q: Are the saunas private?

A: Our saunas are located in a private, secluded area on the second floor of our spa.

Q: How long are the sessions?

A: Our infrared sauna sessions are available in both 20 minute and 50 minute sessions.

Q: What should I wear?

A: You'll want to wear as little as possible. Think of a swim suit, shorts and a tank-top, or similar outfit. We'll provide a Skin+Touch Therapy Spa bathrobe and towel for each guest.

Q: Do you accept walk-ins?

A: To provide prompt, courteous service to our customers, we ask that you schedule your infrared service in advance either online or over the phone.

Q: What should I do while in the infrared sauna?

A: You should use the time as you wish! It's a great opportunity to relax, mediate and let the stress of the week melt away. Bring a book, browse your phone, or just close your eyes and let your mind wander to the relaxing music. More active users may opt for a quick stretching or yoga session.

Q: Can I use the infrared sauna with a friend?

A: Of course. Our infrared saunas are able to comfortably accommodate two or three people. There is a small extra charge to bring a friend, however, so please call us in advance to schedule your group sauna session.

Q: Are the infrared saunas sanitary?

A: Absolutely. The heat and infrared light from the sauna is a natural disinfectant and kills bacteria. The infrared sauna is also made of cedar wood, which is antibacterial. Each client is provided a robe and towel, and the saunas are cleaned thoroughly and frequently.

Q: Is there anyone who shouldn't use an infrared sauna?

A: If you have any concerns, you should definitely consult your physician. You may want to also consult your physician before using the infrared sauna if you are taking medication, if you are elderly, if you have cardiovascular or chronic conditions, sensitivity to heat, or a condition that impacts your body's ability to sweat. Those pregnant, with serious inflammation, a fever, a communicable disease, hemophilia, or intoxicated or dehydrated should avoid using the infrared sauna.

Q: Do you offer gift certificates?

A: Yes! These can be purchased online at skintouchtherapy.com or in person at our spa.
